UV-cured coating is a favorable technique to functionalize the interface of inert materials. In this context, a curable copolymer coating was synthesized using a reactive (glycidyl methacrylate) monomer and a photocrosslinking (4-benzoylphenyl methacrylate) monomer via atom transfer radical copolymerization. Butyl acrylate was introduced to the copolymer, which in turn improved the ductility and facilitated the surface coating of copolymer with bulky groups. The chemical structure of this copolymer coating was identified using 1H-NMR and FTIR in which the monomers in feed were also observed in the copolymer. UV-cure potency of copolymer was monitored using UV–visible spectroscopy in which the 90 s UV-irradiation (365 nm) enabled one-step functionalization of polypropylene (PP) surface. Additionally, the existence of oxirane ring of copolymer on the PP surface successfully immobilized p-phenylenediamine, and hence realized antioxidant film. The oxidation and reduction abilities of antioxidant film were assessed using cyclic voltammetry, which supported the free radical scavenging mechanism. Furthermore, this antioxidant film remarkably (p &lt; 0.05) delayed the lag time of vitamin C degradation and olive oil oxidation during storage. Moreover, antioxidant film did not leave any migrant behind after incubation with simulant solvents that confirmed the non-migratory feature. The photografting technology assisted with the preparation of an emerging antioxidant film that can be practically applied for packaging, cosmetic, and biomedical.
