The incorporation of silicon as a heteroatom dopant in π-conjugated organic molecules and materials gives rise to emergent electronic and photophysical properties. Here we exploit hyperconjugative mixing of σ-conjugated silanes with π-conjugated organics to create molecules and materials with new electronic functions and properties. This poster describes the synthesis, characterization, and properties of σ-π conjugated organosilanes as electronic building blocks and their potential use in applications such as optoelectronics and single-molecule quantum transport. In particular, we will explore how the nature of σ – π orbital interactions affects intramolecular and intermolecular charge transport.
