The ballistic performance of the soft armor is known to be evaluated by the parameters such as the residual velocity (Vr), and the extent of energy absorption (Ea) after the projectile strikes the armor. Residual velocity provides a deep insight into the resistance provided by the fabric layers during the penetration exhibited by the projectile/ballistic threat. Finally, the energy absorption mechanism gives the measure of the energy dissipated by the fabric layers just after bullet impact. Therefore, evaluation of residual velocity and extent of energy absorption is necessary to get holistic information on the resistance provided by the soft armors against various ballistic threats. Poly (p-phenylene terephthalamide) i.e. PPTA fibers are used as a regular constituent material in soft armors for protection against ballistic threats. Therefore, it holds crucial importance to evaluate the ballistic performance of soft armors after the strike of bullets. In this present study, the ballistic performance of woven fabrics made up of PPTA fibers has been analyzed using Finite Element Analysis on ABAQUS software tool. The model is designed by considering yarn as a continuum with strength and modulus dominating along the length. The model designed can predict the ballistic performance parameters in terms of residual velocity (Vr). The extent of energy absorption then can be quantified from the obtained residual velocity.
