The landmark Global Chemicals Outlook II (UNEP 2019) states that “further action at all levels is needed to disseminate best practices in green and sustainable chemistry education and overcome barriers in academia and the private sector”. Prepared in response to a resolution adopted at the fourth United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA 4/8) in 2019, UNEP’s series of green and sustainable chemicals manuals seek to advance the sharing of knowledge and good practices. The forthcoming 2021 UNEP specialized manual on green and sustainable chemistry education aim at stimulating and facilitating transformative changes through formal, non-formal and informal education to reap the full potential of green and sustainable chemistry. It provides practical advice to design effective green and sustainable chemistry learning interventions along with relevant examples and resources to inspire teachers, educators and change-makers in government and industry. The manual closely relates to and expands upon UNEP’s Green and Sustainable Chemistry: Framework Manual (UNEP 2020) which features 10 objectives and guiding considerations for green and sustainable chemistry.
