Recent works have demonstrated the use of Me-DalPhos type (P,N) ligand supported Au(III) aryl complexes to perform rapid C-S arylation in a number of synthetic contexts. While this strategy allows for the facile formation of a C-S bond, there is very little selectivity if several thiols are available for arylation making the synthesis of complex structures difficult. In this work, we demonstrate how the reductive elimination from these complexes to form the C-S bond can readily be controlled purely through steric effects rather than electronic. Utilizing the sterics of the aryl moiety, we detail the synthesis and characterization of a number of complex hybrid nanostructures. We will also demonstrate how the modification of the (P,N) ligand provides a synergistic effect that allows for even greater control over the reductive elimination.
