Transition metal-based ions are very advantageous for spin-based applications due to the ease of control over the local environment of the electron. Implementation of transitional metal-based molecules into applications such as quantum computing, electron paramagnetic resonance imaging (EPRI), or information storage requires an understanding of how the environment around the spin impacts spin dynamics. The environment can include the solvent, neighboring diamagnetic molecules, or aspects of the coordination sphere on the molecule itself. In magnetic molecules, structure-function relationships can dictate relaxation times (T1, Tm), relaxation processes, and electron spin interactions with the local environment. One aspect of this challenge is understanding when the molecule itself is controlling relaxation or the local environment (solvent or neighboring diamagnetic matrix). This presentation will detail how aspects on the molecule can dictate the phase memory relaxation of V(IV) complexes. Such control can impact relaxation times (T1, Tm) and relaxation processes in these complexes.
