Distinguished by its aggressiveness and lack of estrogen receptors, progesterone receptors, and human epidermal growth factor receptors 2 (HER2), triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) poses a challenge to modern medicine as commonly used hormone and HER2 targeted treatment options are rendered ineffective. P22 Virus-like Particles (VLPs), able to encapsulate chemotherapy drugs, are ligated to TNBC targeting LC129-8, a compound with a high specificity of binding to TNBC, <i>via</i> sortase-mediated reaction functions as a system to efficiently deliver high doses of chemotherapy to cancer cells with the objective to induce complete apoptosis of affected TNBC cells. The P22 VLP conjugate of LC129-8 is characterized via SDS-PAGE, Western blot, and mass spectrometry. Further analysis of the selective binding of the conjugate to TNBC along with its capabilities to release chemotherapy drugs in the TNBC cells will be discussed. We believe the TNBC targeting VLP functioning as a method to administer high doses of chemo directly into the TNBC can induce complete cell-death of TNBC and thereby block metastatic recurrence.
