Electron rich and planar heterocycles with 5 membered rings such as pyrroles are easily recognized in several biological molecules for instance cofactor Vitamin B12 and Chlorophyll, a green pigment found in plants. The wide variety of interactions, such as Hydrogen bonds, metal coordination, that these pyrroles can form with other molecules make them attractive also for drug synthesis.<br/>N-Aryl indoles also form part of these selected group of active pharmaceutical compounds, which can be found in antipsychotic drugs including sertindole. Providing new methods and materials to synthesize N-Aryl indoles will enrich and expand N-Aryl indoles family.<br/>A formal pyrrole cyclization through enamine formation and malonate activation has been developed, offering N-Aryl indoles in high yields.<br/>In this transformation, diphenyl hydrogen phosphate activates the formation of enamine which reacts with an activated malonate in the absence of metal.<br/>This reaction offers an extended and diverse substrate scope and provides a new syntetic pathway to access N-Aryl Indoles.
