MOFs are a class of hybrid materials formed by the assembly of rigid inorganic component or metal nodes (ions or clusters) and flexible multifunctional organic ligands. MOFs possess crystalline, highly ordered, porous structure with high specific surface area compared to the traditional porous materials, tunable pore dimensions and potential to be functionalized. Due to these excellent properties MOFs hold great potential in various research fields. However, there are certain limitations of pristine MOF such as the inferior electric conductivity, low water stability and presence of inaccessible active metal site that need to be addressed for its direct application in electrochemical sensing.<br/>In order to generate improved analytical signal for the determination of analyte in sensing, the electrode surface can be modified with suitable materials. Since the chemically modified electrodes (CME) based on pristine MOF has inferior electrocatalytic activity, design of highly conducting and redox-active MOF is a research hotspot in the material science. Doping of metal ions into the MOF is an efficient method to control the electronic structure of a catalyst and thereby enhance the electrocatalytic activity. The addition of a noble metal into the framework has the synergistic effect between two different metal ions that changes the surface electronic structure of MOF and promote the mobility of charge carriers. This in turn improves the interfacial electrocatalytic kinetics in CME and result in the rise of efficient electrocatalyst with increased number of active sites.<br/>In this work, we report the doping of ruthenium into a MOF which is synthesised at ambient conditions. The as synthesised Ru-doped MOF was employed for the sensitive and selective electrochemical detection of antibiotic. The morphology, chemical structure and electrochemical activity of Cu-MOF@Ru were characterized using SEM, XPS and electrochemical techniques. The electrochemical performance of Cu-MOF@Ru for the sensing of antibiotic was investigated.
