This website[1] offers interactive 3D chemistry animations and structures, for students studying some important topics in university chemistry courses. It is based on the JavaScript-only free and open-source software jsmol[2]. Some data (geometries, energies, vibrational normal modes) were obtained by DFT investigations. During the COVID-19 pandemic, it has been widely used by the students and teachers of the Toulouse – Paul Sabatier University (France), and some pages have been specifically developed as an alternative to practical work. Within this framework, students can also work on their own, and may even find some benefits in working independently. Such website can also participate to flipped teaching approaches. After a brief overview of the main topics illustrated in vChem3D, we will primarily focus on IR/Raman analysis (see Figure) and on the VSEPR/hybrid orbitals topic.
