The higher education community has struggled with campus climate for decades in its efforts to be more inclusive and representative of the diverse communities we support and represent. UNH ADVANCE, working within the Office of the Provost, has sought to transform the University of New Hampshire by engaging faculty and institutional leadership to improve the university climate through increased fairness, transparency, and clarity of recruitment, retention, and promotion and tenure policies and practices. While driven by the need to increase participation and advancement of women faculty and underrepresented minorities, the UNH ADVANCE efforts aim to benefit all faculty members. UNH ADVANCE was established beginning in 2008 through a series of grants from the National Science Foundation. Key initiatives include professional development for search committees, academic leaders, and pre-tenure faculty. The most recent funding has supported the development of an online course, <i>Bystander Intervention in the Academic Workplace</i>. Throughout the process we have tracked our success through research and evaluation that inform the key initiatives and other UNH programs and policies. This session will provide an overview of the UNH ADVANCE initiatives and sustainability efforts along with new programs to diversify the faculty. It will illustrate how as an institution we have sustained and built on these initiatives through collaborations between, UNH ADVANCE, the Office of the Provost and the Office of Community, Equity and Diversity.
