Medicinal Chemistry Division was established by the ACS Inter Ponce Chapter to address the interests of our members in the application of chemistry in pharmacology, toxicology, medicine, and related fields. This was a challenge since we had to adapt to the pandemic by shifting our activities from in person to virtual conferences. However, we successfully accomplished our mission by providing information of the biochemistry and physiology involved in the development of drugs in order to enhance medicine. We conducted different activities to promote this division, and recruited new members through virtual professional orientations, personal development seminaries and community services. This division generated creative strategies for Chemistry Week by performing demonstrations in schools that integrated medicine and chemistry. Additionally, we performed community service by collecting donations and delivering them to homeless people in order to aid the homelessness issue in our hometown. As part of the development mission, we had professionals guests give conferences to our members about their experiences in the fields of medicine, pharmacology and chemistry. One of the most interesting activities was given by an expert in drug development that oriented our students about the drug development process, emphasizing the importance of chemistry in medical therapy. We also invited speakers from graduate schools to give us virtual orientation about the application process and the different programs in the biomedical field. These activities served as an excellent opportunity to recruit volunteers and members for the student chapter. As a division, we took on a bigger challenge by continuing our planned activities regardless of the pandemic and contributing to the professional development of our members, developed community service activities and became one of the most appreciated divisions of our chapter.
