Over the past two decades, peer-led team learning has proven powerful in the enhancement of various skills of workshop peer leaders in academic programs. The role of a peer leader specifically has been shown not only to have impacts in the immediate timeframe, but lasting impacts throughout ones career. These skills have been previously shown in the first part of this study to transfer into the workplace of peer leaders years later. Former peer leaders value these experiences as often denoted by one’s LinkedIn profile. This study examines the value of being a peer leader as it relates to one’s current position as well as the various components of the program that lead to greater increases in: coping with challenges (such as not having the correct answer), leadership skills, collaboration/teamwork skills, self-confidence, and problem-solving skills. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with former peer leaders from varying disciplines, universities, and of varying ages and years since being a peer leader. These interviews were followed-up by a larger quantitative instrument. Confirmatory factor analytic procedures and regression analyses display the factors of the program that lead to higher gains in transferrable skills.
