Over the past year and a half, faculty have revised their courses due to COVID 19 from in-person to remote formats. In some cases, they dramatically retooled entire courses for new course teaching modes and provided completely new experiences and approaches for students which may or may not have been successful.  In some cases, courses were flipped, completely different assignments developed, and new course approaches taken.  In several cases, the literature reports one semester of data as COVID changed their teaching mode. In this paper we report how we can use approaches learned from developing online courses and apply them to remote synchronous lecture in General and Analytical Chemistry courses over multiple semesters. Student feedback and student performance in these courses are reported for a more long-term study of both upper and lower- division courses. We discuss what technology was critical in remote and online teaching, what students think of these courses and their level of engagement, if they performed well in all modes, and what lasting changes we see moving forward in higher education chemistry teaching.  We report that it’s possible to construct courses where students perform similarly in the in-person, remote and online course formats for General Chemistry 1 and 2. Not only does this work in lower-level large courses 80-120 students, but also smaller junior level analytical chemistry courses (40-50 students). We report similar course averages over all modes of instruction between lower and upper division courses comparing the key components of course instructional modes.  Course averages, student responses regarding their views on the courses, and what students view as critical course components across all modes, over multiple semesters are discussed as well as where we view instruction moving in the future for lecture instruction in chemistry courses.
