We have recently achieved the synthesis of the first phenazine-based oligomer and demonstrated that it extends and contracts reversibly in response to chemical and electrochemical reduction- oxidation. However, its preparation required a lengthy synthetic sequence. To address this shortcoming, we have designed an alternative linker, which has led to a more efficient approach to redox-responsive oligomers.
