In recent years, photothermal therapy (PTT) has been investigated for the treatment of various cancers. Gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) play an important role in PTT due to their biocompatibility and ability to absorb near-infrared radiation (NIR), thus making them an appropriate photothermal agent. In addition to nanoparticles, gold nanorods (AuNRs) show similar properties and were synthesized under different reaction conditions. The AuNPs and AuNRs were synthesized using the Turkevich method. Their size, morphology, and size distributions were characterized via dynamic light scattering (DLS), ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis) spectroscopy, and transmission electron microscopy (TEM).
