Hair testing is an area of forensic science that is used in drug testing for various types of illicit substances. This project focused on testing the level of Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinol (Δ9-THC) that may be deposited onto hair from the use of CBD oil products. The concern for such testing arises from testing related to various jobs requiring random drug testing. If people are using CBD oil, there is a potential for a false positive on a drug test. The methods used in this project consist of method development of the supercritical fluid extractor conditions for extraction of Δ9-THC from hair samples. Supercritical fluid extraction (SFE) is being used instead of other established drug testing methods because SFE is less expensive, faster, and uses carbon dioxide as a carrier gas which is chemically inert and nontoxic. The extracted samples were analyzed using High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC). HPLC methods were used to determine SFE method efficiency.
