The lack of progress in antifungal development is of high concern in the treatment of infectious diseases. Among opportunistic fungi[GW1] , <i>Candida auris</i>, a recently emerged species, is frequently the topic of discussion regarding novel drug formulations. A rise in immunocompromised populations, as well as increased resistance to current antifungal classes, highlights the need for updated strategies to treat this pathogen. Photodynamic therapy, discovered over a century ago, has had success in treating microbial infections. In addition, membrane-active peptides (MAPs) have shown great promise in microbe inhibition. This work presents the synthesis of a photosensitizer-peptide conjugate that will have comparable antimicrobial activity to current antifungal agents.
