Interest in the application of supercritical fluid extraction (SFE) and supercritical fluid chromatography (SFC) for environmental analysis is growing because of 1) its applicability for multiresidue analysis of a wide range of compounds with high sensitivity when coupled with mass spectrometry, 2) the degree of automation the technique enables, and 3) the minimal use of organic solvents. In this presentation we will provide an overview of the relevance of method optimization when using SFE and SFC; we will also present the results from the analysis of various types of contaminants, including pesticides, volatile compounds, PFAS and chemicals sorbed on microplastics.
