This study investigated the physiological and biochemical responses of wheat exposed to cerium oxide nanoparticles (CeO2-NPs) and perfluorooctanesulfonic acid (PFOS) in successive generations. Wheat seeds harvested from plants generationally exposed to CeO2-NPs (500 mg/kg) were grown for 90 days in soil amended with PFOS (50 mg/kg). Biomass production, chlorophyll content, and membrane damage were measured. Results showed that previous exposure of wheat to CeO2-NPs could affect the performance of daughter plants when exposed to another contaminant. Further studies are needed to evaluate the potential effects on plant growth and grain production after successive exposures to different environmental contaminants.
