For a spectroscopist who is forever intrigued by light-matter interactions, admixtures of elementary excitations and light - polaritons - highlight those interactions and bring out unique new effects in energetics, kinetics, and collective states. Examples in optical to terahertz spectral ranges will illustrate some of the prospects.
