As younger chemists, we tend to be shy and hesitant pertinent to reaching out to our peers and professionals to ask for career guidance, assistance and foster relationships; as a consequence, networking becomes challenging. Networking provides a means at which we can learn about internship and job opportunities, seek guidance as we make decisions on our course of study & career planning, facilitates an avenue that allows us to influence others through involvement with professional organizations, and build our personal brand. For this talk, I will take you on a journey as a younger chemist sharing practical networking tools that I’ve leveraged to foster my professional and career development starting from being a graduate student to now an early career professional. You will learn about how I was able to land my first job as a postdoctoral research fellow, tools that I’m using to transition into a career as an industry professional, strategies I’m using to develop my personal brand, how I got started, and also about why developing networking skills is important.
