Tissue engineering offers the opportunity to create new tissues and organs. Here we discuss the design of biomaterials including bioconjugates for applications in tissue engineering. Examples include the creation of blood vessels, cartilage, artificial pancreas, and spinal cord repair. We also discuss the use of such approaches to create organs and tissues on a chip which has the potential to significantly reduce the use of animals and people in testing new molecular entities.
