Heterocycles are relevant scaffolds in chemistry, not only because they are present in most of the naturally occurring molecules, but mainly because of their chemical, biological and technical importance. In recent years, our research group has reported the synthesis of some valuable heterocycles by transition metal catalyzed methodologies that combine heteroatom-directed activation of C–H bonds and formal cycloaddition processes with unsaturated partners. These methods are applied in readily available starting materials and are characterized by their simplicity, wide substrate range, and a high degree of economy of atom- and step economy.
