Thermal expansion (TE) is the response of a material to a change in temperature. Materials that undergo controlled TE are useful in high-precision instruments and aerospace applications. Predicting and controlling TE behaviors of organic molecular solids, which are sustained in three dimensions by noncovalent interactions remains challenging. In this presentation, we will highlight our research on thermal expansion in organic solids conducted by women in the group, as well as efforts we have taken to promote the progression of women in science on campus and in the field of supramolecular chemistry.
