The role of the nurse in a resuscitation team: Looking for the determinants of efficiency and quality efficiency

Background: In-Hospital Cardiac Arrest (IHCA) is undoubtedly one of the most urgent and extremely demanding health events. A resuscitation team (RT) is a set of specialized professionals, among whom the nurse is an integral member. Although, the factors that affect effectiveness and quality efficiency should be investigated, expecting ever-higher performance, which are inevitably linked horizontally with increasing rates of return to spontaneous circulation (ROSC) cases.
Purpose: To highlight the important conditions that must be met by clinical nurses, who actively participate in resuscitation groups, in order to achieve maximum efficiency and optimal quality efficiency of the team.
Materials/Methods: A mixed-method design for data collection, using the research methodology "Delphi", will be conducted. After analyzing our data, a controlled experiment in laboratory conditions, where the sample will be divided into control and experimental group, will be held. Then, we will simulate the two groups in cases of cardiorespiratory arrest, and finally, we will evaluate them through the use of video-recording. The analysis of the quantitative data will be performed with IBM SPSS STATISTICS 27.0.
Results: Final results of the study are expected to present commonly accepted points and characteristics regarding the clinical nurses, who participate as members, in RT. Regarding the consent of the experts, the factors that affect the effectiveness and quality efficiency of the members of a RT, will be clarified. However, the hypothesis that "the experts are right" remains to be investigated experimentally.
Conclusions: The probable proof of this research hypothesis, essentially leads us to a point where different groups of specialists have agreed on the characteristics that nurses-members of a RT should have. We hope to place among the deliverables a form for evaluating the performance of the RT, which will undoubtedly be based on the current scientific literature and always following the ERC guidelines.
