Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) is a holistic approach to equipment maintenance that strives to achieve perfect production. Furthermore, the methodology identifies and seeks to eliminate losses in the production process, by maximizing the use of industrial assets and guaranteeing the generation of high-quality products at competitive prices.  The integration between pillars (production, maintenance, manufacturing engineering and EHS) and Business Excellence team is key to the success of the program.
The paint work for Executive Aircraft has a high-end quality standard with strict requirements. Besides high skilled manpower, a perfectly functioning system is a key success factor. Its main benefits are to increase competitiveness and customer satisfaction. The unprecedented implementation to be described in this paper is the application of the TPM methodology at A Paint Booth Complex setting.
The Paint Booth is an organic system, with eyes (illumination), lungs (down draft ventilation and filters), kidneys (chemical treatment), and other vital organs that need to work smoothly to provide final product within specifications. With the newfound TPM mindset, opportunities were identified during genba walks such as luminosity, airflow, paint preparation process, booth cleanliness, water treatment process that all directly affected the quality of the paint process on the aircraft.
The main results of the application of this methodology relies on the (i) reduction from 35% to 4% in dirt and debris found in the items found in delivery center, (ii) 17% in paint cycle time reduction, (iii) turnover reduction, and (iv) preventive maintenance schedule and procedures optimization.
