Not so long ago, the conventional treatment of the burn patient was long, expensive, painful and not very effective. It was based on surgical escharotomy, constant medication and final coverage with partial thin skin grafts.
In recent years, the standard of care, has deeply changed and turned into a more selective and less invasive procedure. Nowadays, when it comes to burn patient, is mandatory the Mini Invasive Modality treatment (MIMO).
It consists of a first step that is performed by the end of 48 hours from the burn event; the patient undergoes an enzymatic debridement using NEXOBRID ®, that contains a mixture of enzymes enriched in bromelain, which dissolve burn wound eschar. It is spread in sedation at bedside on a maximum of 15% of TBSA of the patient per time; it is left on 4 hours and then removed so that a medication with collagenase ointment is performed.
After 7 days, a pseudo eschar is formed on the treated area, and it is removed in surgery room with idro-surgical treatment. Subsequently, medication with dermal substitutes soaked with stem cells obtained through lipoaspirate is performed. Ten days later, the dermal substitute is removed and from that time serial dressings are performed.
These steps are repeated on each burn area with the target to obtain the best wound bed to be able of second intention healing, so to reduce the necessity of skin grafts coverage.
MIMO protocol has been investigated in different studies with the evidence of obtaining better scars, reducing costs, patient hospitalization and surgical procedures.
We show our experience of X patients hospitalized in the last X months/years.

P.062 minimal invasive modality (m.i.mo) in new technological approach to severe burn patients

We will be pleased to welcome you in Turin (Italy) for the 19th European Burns Association´s Congress in 2022. Italy is honored to hold the meeting of the European Burns Association for the second time, after Verona in 1995. Turin is easily reachable from everywhere in Europe, either travelling by car, train or choosing flight connections. During the meeting, held in the renewed industrial center of the main Italian historical automotive factory (i.e. Lingotto-FIAT), we will meet international burn specialists, focusing on standards of care, progresses in burn treatment, strategies to face disaster situations, with a special attention to education of younger colleagues. However, in your spare time, you might enjoy the sweet days of Italian late summer, simply wandering in the green parks and gardens along the two rivers which cross the city, or you might decide to discover the numerous art galleries, churches, palaces, libraries, walking across elegant squares and large boulevards, passing through centuries of art and history; finally, you may choose to immerse yourself in some of the most exciting museum experiences, such as the Cinema Museum and the Turin’s Egyptian museum.
