This paper will provide an overview of the American Chemical Society’s newly launched Campaign for a Sustainable Future, one of four new ACS Strategic Initiatives. This initiative will focus on advancing chemistry innovations to address the challenges articulated in the U.N. 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. As a scientific society, ACS can use its convening power to serve as a catalyst and a leader in advancing chemistry innovations to help solve the challenges articulated in the SDGs. With more than 151,000 members and strong international and industrial participation, ACS is well situated to create lasting partnerships across the chemistry enterprise to address global sustainability challenges. The Campaign for a Sustainable Future is a multifaceted initiative with the aim of having lasting impacts on how we conduct research, how we teach chemistry, and how we collaborate globally. Additionally, ACS has formed a new Office of Sustainable Development and is currently seeking a Sustainable Development Director to lead the initiative, as well as the Green Chemistry Institute. Finally, we will be developing an interactive website to inform and bring the chemistry community together around sustainability and green chemistry issues.
