Gas laws are introduced in most undergraduate and high-school chemistry courses. We discuss the use of a simple Gas Law Apparatus from Flinn Scientific to discover Boyle’s law of a gas in a general chemistry laboratory. Students collected data using the commercial apparatus and then graphed the pressure versus the reciprocal of the volume to obtain the liner function using Microsoft Excel. Students also performed statistical analysis and determine the PV constant. The results achieved by students were precise because the volume and pressure were read precisely on the graduated lines, and the change was significant. Additionally, this experiment can also be utilized to teach error analysis, use of a spreadsheet program, and statistical analysis.
