The proposed use of molten salts in the next generation of nuclear reactors will subject them to intense levels of radiation. Little is known about the wide variety of reactive chemical species that will be produced or their kinetics. Even basic energy transport properties are largely not identified. Pulsed electron radiolysis is a well-known technique to probe the formation and temporal profiles of transient chemical species. Radiolysis of the molten KCl-LiCl eutectic has been used to probe the kinetics of the transient species on the nanosecond to microsecond time scale. This presentation will show the development of the physical model to visualize the expected track structure and initial non-homogeneous distributions of the salt decomposition species. A kinetic diffusion model that can predict the formation and reaction of transient species to aid in understanding the experimental results will be shown. The comparison between the experimental results and model predictions for the decay of the solvated electron and the dichloride anion (Cl<sub>2</sub><sup>-</sup>) in molten KCl-LiCl will be shown. Scavenging studies with added chromium (III) and chromium (II) show their interactions with the solvated electron while the dichloride anion exhibits chemistry that is more complicated.
