Redox flow batteries (RFBs) emerged as a promising electrochemical energy storage technology for electric energy generated from renewable sources. High-performance yet low-cost membrane is urgently needed for large-scale application of RFBs. Inspired by the unique structure of siloxane-based cage frameworks of polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxanes, a sub-1-nanometer channels of membrane is orientedly induced by polysilsesquioxane nanocage with multiple branched amino groups onto polymer material. The synergistic effect of the super hydrophilicity, extra functional amino groups and matched sub-1-nanometer channels with size between hydrated vanadium ions and hydrated proton, achieving an ultrahigh proton-selective conductivity of 1.18x1011 mS s cm-3. RFB assembled with prepared membrane shows high electrochemical performance and achieves a surprisingly excellent durability of high efficiencies over 7000 charge–discharge cycles, even in hash environment of vanadium flow battery.
