Hong Kong has recorded thousands of Covid deaths, with the majority among the elderly. Elderly people who live in long-term care facilities are considered as one of the most vulnerable groups. An antimicrobial textile finishes was developed to prevent the spread of microorganisms between patients, healthcare workers and doctors. The finishes were applied onto the patients’ bedsheet and its performance was evaluated in a field study conducted in three elderly nursing homes in Hong Kong. The results showed that the treated bedsheets had around 80% viral reduction and 70% bacterial reduction after 7 days exposure in the care facilities. This promising coating may also be applied to other textiles, for example, curtain, pajama, and uniform to help prevent the spread of Covid-19.
