Developing capabilities to capture temporal deformation of natural and architected materials is crucial for a wide range of applications including catalysis, sustainable fluid storage and recovery in subsurface environments, and high strength structural materials for extreme environments. Here, we describe approaches to resolve the dynamic evolution of fracture patterns during the deformation of alumino-silicates using operando synchrotron X-ray tomography measurements. Corresponding changes in these crystal structures of these materials are determined using X-Ray Diffraction. Approaches to reconstruct deformation patterns based on image analyses are discussed.
