In this panel, undergraduates from various institutions and backgrounds in carbon capture will share their experiences and lead a discussion on ways to implement it into undergraduate curriculum and research. Carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) has been a key focus of research and discussion in the race to offset rising CO2 levels. There has been consistent research on novel methods for greener, more efficient, or more cost-effective CCUS. Because of its applicability in real, global issues and its range of research methods, this topic is ideal for integration into undergraduate education and research. Many students are aware of current climate issues and doing this gives them a chance to be a part of the research and/or gain perspective on how chemistry plays an essential part. The focus of this undergraduate-led panel is to explore ways in which CCUS can be scaled to fit different needs and resources, discuss, from a student perspective, ways to promote student interest in the topic, and to share ideas on how CCUS can be integrated into undergraduate education and research.
