General Chemistry courses at large campus universities can have very high enrollments and a wide mixture of student majors.  At Binghamton University, our courses were exceeding 1000 students per semester in the General Chemistry sequence.  The students that were enrolled had a wide variety of majors in the sciences.  Of this population, through survey analysis, we were finding a growing number of Chemistry and Biochemistry majors.  Our majors would eventually advance to smaller classes in their upper level coursework, but their early involvement at the University would leave some to feel disconnected.<br/>Over the past couple of years, we have been building an opportunity for students taking General Chemistry to address their interest.  We have introduced a separate course that caters to the pre-health non majors, and have an offering of general chemistry with a higher density of our Chemistry and Biochemistry majors.  Lecture time can delve deeper into chemistry concepts and understanding through the lens of a chemist.  Our use of Chemistry Interest Nights and Career Panels, as well as coordination with the Undergraduate Chemistry Club, has allowed Chemistry and Biochemistry majors more concentrated access to their development with opportunities that are available to them.  We will discuss how the majors have responded to this, what has been effective, as well as future developments to further enrich our Chemistry and Biochemistry majors experience.
