<br/>Among Professor Russell's numerous, original, and significant contributions to polymer science are those in which he applied neutron reflectometry and small angle scattering methods. For this groundbreaking work, along with his support of neutron scattering methods in general, Tom was awarded the 2020 Clifford G. Shull Prize by the Neutron Scattering Society of America, named after and in honor of the Nobel Prize laureate. In this presentation, the advances made by Professor Russell and colleagues in the study of the structure of block copolymer thin film systems by neutron reflectometry will be the principal focus. A concise discussion of the fundamental reasons that make neutron reflectometry such a powerful probe of soft condensed matter will be given first, followed by specific examples of the types of studies of block copolymer systems which Tom pioneered.
