Interest in organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs) fabricated using a solution process is growing for real application. Poly-(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(styrene sulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS) has excellent hole injection ability and solvent orthogonality, so it is most often used as a hole-injection layer (HIL). However, because PEDOT:PSS has strong acidic (pH~1.5) nature, it has the disadvantage of damaging the ITO and allowing indium ions to diffuse into the HIL. In this study, a new HIL polymer with excellent hole transport ability and high solvent resistance was synthesized and characteristics were analyzed. The synthesized polymer showed suitable frontier orbital energy levels and high SCLC hole mobility for use as HIL, and also had excellent solvent resistance, so it was not damaged in the subsequent HTL forming process. The fabricated OLED devices showed better performances than those of corresponding devices using PEDOT:PSS.
