Electrochemical carbon dioxide reduction reaction (CO2RR) to value-added products is a promising strategy to reduce atmospheric CO2. Recently, several strategies for alloying two metals have been developed to increase the catalytic performance of catalysts. In this poster, we present element-specific electroreduction of CO2 on atom-precise gold-nickel nanoclusters (AuNi NCs). The AuNi NCs were characterized by X-ray crystallography, UV-Vis spectroscopy, electrochemistry and mass spectrometry. It was found that the AuNi NCs exhibited high selectivity for CO production (&gt; 95%), whereas pure nickel nanoclusters (Ni NCs) showed nearly unity selectivity for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). Based on the comparison of electrocatalytic activities for CO2RR and HER on Ni NCs and AuNi NCs, we clearly revealed that the gold and nickel atoms in AuNi NCs exclusively contribute to CO2RR and HER, respectively. These results provide a useful design principle for the development of highly selective CO2RR catalysts.
