Inorganic halide perovskite nanocrystals (NCs) have garnered increased research and application interests owing to their many assets including facile, low-cost solution synthesis and processability, and superior optical and optoelectronic properties. In this context, composition and morphology controls of halide perovskite NCs represent an important strategy for the further development of functional perovskite-based nanomaterials and had yet to be fully investigated, especially for lead-free perovskite systems. In this talk, I will discuss about our recent studies in the field of composition, crystal structure and morphology controls of lead-based halide perovskite, lead-free double perovskite and layered double perovskite (vacancy ordered quadruple perovskite) NCs. The composition-structure-property relationships of the resulting materials are studied through materials characterizations and density functional theory calculations. Owing to their superior optical and optoelectronic properties, I will showcase that the resulting high-quality halide perovskite NCs can be used as efficient photocatalysts, or solution-processed into high-speed photodetectors. Our work premises further expansion of such halide perovskite nanomaterials for both fundamental researches and application integrations.
