PFASs have been implicated in multiple diseases by over activating or inhibiting protein functions, which can have detrimental impacts. For example, the peroxisome proliferator receptor gamma (PPARg), a type II nuclear receptor, which has a prime role in glucose metabolism and insulin sensitization has been shown to be impacted severely by PFASs. However, very limited molecular level knowledge is available on how PFASs interact with this nuclear receptor.<br/><br/>Herein, 27 PFASs are investigated, detailing how they bind to the human protein PPARg. As well, potential <i>in vivo</i> strategies towards PFAS mitigation will be discussed, as such approaches may be crucial in the overall remediation measures for these “forever chemicals”.
