Health Canada’s Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA) is responsible for regulating pest control products in Canada, with the priority of protecting the health and safety of Canadians and their environment. Before a product is approved for use in Canada, it must undergo a thorough science-based risk assessment and meet strict health and environmental standards. In addition, a re-evaluation of registered products is conducted at least every 15 years to ensure products continue to meet these strict standards. This presentation discusses the PMRA’s current risk assessment framework for non-target arthropods (predators and parasitoids) including protection goals, data requirements and potential risk mitigation measures used to protect non-target arthropods in Canada.
