Over 40% of crops are lost to pests annually. Pesticides are critical to mitigate this loss; however, there are limited modes of action (MOA) available in the market and a lack of novel insecticides to replace those for which their target pests have evolved resistance. Using our Micromining™ platform, Pluton Biosciences has streamlined the identification and characterization of novel microbes and natural products that may provide novel MOAs to bolster or replace the currently available insecticidal MOAs. Using a two-pronged approach of activity-guided biochemical fractionation and genomic analyses, we have rapidly identified novel actives from our samples, and, using isolated biosimilars, we will uncover taxonomic and chemical diversity around novel microbially-derived peptide and small-molecule actives.
