Gold nanorods are well-known plasmonic nanomaterials that are under intense investigation for sensing, diagnostic, catalytic, and photothermal applications.  There have been many unanswered questions about these materials: (i) Is there a difference in ligand density at the sides and ends of nanorods? and (ii) Under high laser powers that lead to photoelectron ejection from the materials, what is the spatial distribution of electrons and how can that be controlled?  In this talk I will present answers to these questions, relying greatly on wonderful collaborators on the measurement side.
