The observation of global antibiotic resistance increases the demand for novel antibiotics. In this context, the aurachins provide a promising lead: First isolated from myxobacterium <i>Stigmatella aurantiaca</i>, the quinoline alkaloid family of aurachins has been subject to bioactivity studies showing that the natural products exhibit a broad scope of biological activities such as antimalarial, anticancer, and antibiotic properties. Therefore, aurachin derivatives are valuable target compounds for further investigation towards biomedical application. Complementary to total synthesis, sustainable semi- and mutasynthetic approaches have been investigated to exploit enzymatic transformations <i>in vivo</i>. Our recent findings will be presented.
