Several mononuclear mixed ligand copper(II) complexes containing 1,10-phenanthroline have been isolated and characterized by infrared spectroscopy, elemental analysis, and single-crystal x-ray diffraction. In these complexes, the geometry around copper(II) is described as square pyramidal with an inner coordination sphere that contains, in addition to phenanthroline, and second chelating N-donor ligand amongst 2,2':6',2''-terpyridine, 4'-chloro-2,2':6',2''-terpyridine<b>, </b> 4,4'-dimethoxy-2 2'-bipyridine, 4,4′-dimethyl-2,2′-dipyridyl, and 2,6-bis(2-benzimidazolyl)pyridine. The cytotoxicity of the new complexes against MCF-7 breast cancer cells will be presented.
