Iron zero nanoparticles are reported to have strong reducing properties that can react and remove a wide variety of water contaminants. This study investigates the interactions of iron zero nanoparticles with sodium dodecyl sulfate micellar solutions and deep eutectic solvents using spectroscopic, dynamic light scattering, surface tension, and polarizing optical microscopic studies. Iron zero nanoparticles were prepared by the reduction of iron sulfate in ethanol with sodium borohydride. We noted that the addition of varying concentrations of iron zero nanoparticles did not significantly affect the surface tension of the sodium dodecyl sulfate solutions, whereas drastic changes in UV spectra were observed. A systematic comparison of dynamic light scattering and spectroscopic studies of iron nanoparticles in sodium dodecyl sulfate solutions as well as in deep eutectic solvents will be presented.
