Flash chromatography is a necessary purification technique used several times a day in medicinal chemistry labs that can consume large solvent quantities. Most purifications are normal-phase which uses organic solvents such as hexane, heptane, ethyl acetate, dichloromethane, methanol, and other solvents. During chromatography these solvents are collected in either fraction collection vessels or waste reservoirs. Post-purification the collected fractions are evaporated, and the solvent vapors hopefully condensed and collected. This solvent is added to the solvent collected in the waste reservoir and eventually shipped out for disposal, which typically is incineration. Incineration then adds to the carbon footprint by adding CO<sub>2</sub> to the atmosphere.<br/>There are options, however, that can reduce the solvent consumption and carbon footprint without sacrificing the core purification goal of isolating sufficient reaction product with acceptable purity. In this poster we will show several options to improve flash chromatography sustainability.
