For the last two decades, the Advanced Chemistry Technologies (ACT) group at AbbVie has utilized parallel library synthesis to make closely related analogues in parallel using robust and general synthetic transformations; this work has helped advance many medicinal chemistry programs. The history and evolution of library synthesis in our group will be discussed along with how new technologies, like high throughput experimentation (HTE) and automation, have been utilized to enable new library amenable methodologies and transformations. The implementation of Photoredox methods in library synthesis will be highlighted as a case study for how technology and process developments were used to expand our synthetic toolbox.
