This talk presents Science Trust Project, an American Physical Society member-driven project beginning in April 2022 as a four-week pilot virtual workshop to promote more productive conversations around climate change and address misinformation. The Project workshop elements can be easily adapted to COVID misinformation and other conversations in the public forum. Misinformation surrounding the scientific process, scientific findings, and scientists have a negative effect on global security, public health, public discourse, and scientific funding. The goal of the Project is to empower participants with a community, tools, and concepts that can help them address scientific misinformation. Topics included: a logical fallacy categorization tool known as FLICC (Fake experts, Logical fallacies, Impossible expectations, Cherry picking, and Conspiracy theories), the fact-myth-fallacy-fact rebuttal format, an understanding of the importance of personal identity in decision making, and reflective listening, a tool for engaging in conversations. Workshop elements and future plans will be discussed.
